Cell Town Project
You are tasked with creating a poster that relates the parts of a cell to the parts of a town. You may choose to illustrate either a plant cell or an animal cell, but you must indicate on your poster which cell you have selected. (Please don’t make me guess.) Remember: plant cells and animal cells contain different structures – you cannot mix them together in your poster. On the back of your poster you must attach a key (either typed or written in blue/black ink) that explains why you chose a particular building or structure for each cell part. The poster must be drawn on a full-sized piece of white poster board. (Please don’t use foam board – it’s too expensive.)
Include the following organelles: cell membrane, nucleus, mitochondria, ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi bodies, cytoplasm and vacuoles.
If you're illustrating a plant cell, you'll also need to include a cell wall and chloroplasts.
If you're illustrating an animal cell, you'll also need to include lysosomes.
Format for your key: We know that the nucleus controls all the activities of the cell. In your poster, Town Hall may represent the nucleus. Your key must have the following format:
| Cell Organelle/Structure | Town Building/Structure | Explanation |
| Nucleus | Town Hall | I chose Town Hall to represent the nucleus because the nucleus controls all the activities of the cell and Town Hall is the center of government and controls all the activities in town. |
Your explanation must be written in complete sentences. Spelling and grammar will count.
You will be graded on the following:
